Financial support available for primary producers in extreme weather aftermath
Summer 2023/4 has proven to be volatile for Queensland growers. While parts of the state sweltered through heat and bushfires, the far north contended with Cyclone Jasper and flooding, and the Southeast received storms as a rather unwelcome Christmas visitor.
Growcom, the project delivery arm of the Queensland Fruit & Vegetable Growers (QFVG), in conjunction with the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA), will host a webinar this coming Friday, 19 January to help primary producers recover from these events.
Sheree Finney, Manager, Drought and Disaster at QRIDA will join Growcom’s Resilience Manager Karen George in this webinar to discuss current funding support options available through QRIDA and explain how growers can apply and what activities are eligible.
Grants and loans are also available to assist producers in readying their property for future climate-related events.
Ms George, who heads Growcom’s Farm Business Resilience Program, said at a stressful time like after a natural disaster it can be difficult to know how or where to start in picking up the pieces.
“Our state’s growers have been put through the wringer lately, and with this webinar we want to ensure they know what kind of financial assistance options are available,” she said.
“We are also here to guide producers through the process and answer any questions, because concrete information can be really helpful in times of uncertainty.”
