QFVG welcomes new Minister

Queensland Fruit & Vegetable Growers has welcomed the appointment of Julie Collins MP as the new Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry over the weekend. 

QFVG CEO Rachel Chambers said she looked forward to building a constructive relationship with Ms Collins in support of Queensland’s horticulture industry. 

“Queensland is second only to Victoria in vegetable production and grows a third of our nation’s fruit,” Ms Chambers said. 

“Having a thriving horticultural sector is paramount to ensuing Aussie families have access to affordable and healthy fresh produce. 

“Agriculture is an immensely important portfolio and aligns nicely with the small business portfolio. We look forward to working with Ms Collins to further her understanding of how horticulture operates, in particular how its seasonal nuances must be considered in policies to ensure the long-term viability of those who grow our food.” 

Ms Chambers acknowledged outgoing minister Murray Watt and congratulated him on his appointment as Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations. 

“We thank Minister Watt for his work in agriculture, it came at a very turbulent crossroads for the horticulture sector. We congratulate Minister Watt on his new portfolio and look forward to continued discussions focussed on addressing the workforce challenges we face,” Ms Chambers said.
